What a Month!
Design Brighton, celebrating urban life and built environment design.
April has been one to remember for the Design Brighton team, forging new relationships and building on existing.
We started with a bang, hosting our membership drive on the 3rd April at the inspirational newly opened Platf9rm Hove town hall.
With sunshine in our eyes we chatted about Design Brighton’s 10 year vision, to position ourselves as the region of choice for delivering national and international design services for the urban realm; providing innovative design solutions for the global challenges we face.
Over the last 3 weeks we have been overwhelmed with positive conversations and membership enquiries that are now attracting the interest of high profile sponsors within the industry.
See what our newest members say….
David Martin, Regional Head of the SHW Sussex Coast offices.
“We’re very excited about Design Brighton and jumped at the opportunity to take up a Supporting Business Partnership. For us, supporting Design Brighton is a valuable proposition as it brings together representatives from the private and public sector with a joint interest of establishing Brighton and Hove as the place to be for cutting edge development, for the benefit of all who live, study and work in the city and its surrounding area.”
Paul Burgess MRTPI, Director of Lewis & Co Planning Consultants.
Sean Clemons Managing Partner of Brighton RLF
“RLF have been involved right from the very start and are very proud to be supporting Design Brighton in helping shape our future city. We continually drive for investment into our local area and welcome this positive direction for Brighton. Exciting times to get involved in shaping, defining and rejuvenating our built environment – we’re a city brimming with talent, so let’s showcase it.”
“Go Fast, Go Alone Go Further, Go Together”

Design Brighton will be partnering with Brighton Chamber on the next Construction Voice lunch event in July. More details to follow by separate email. The Construction Voice events bring together the city region’s construction and property professionals to focus on topical and strategic issues.
We have now engaged social media support with Social Brighton and are looking forward to sharing content to create a knowledge flow for all who follow us.
May is already booked up with potential new members and sponsorship meetings, we hope to confirm many new members over the coming weeks that we will communicate in our next news letter.
What’s the membership all about?
“Building a future for our city that works everyone”
Throughout the Design Brighton evolution we have strongly focused on influencing local policy and positively contributing to our regions development. We work closely with community groups, local authorities, planning, architects, consultants, designers and developers to ensure Design Brighton has this influence.
Our aspiration resonates with the Farrell Review:
“It’s not “either/or” any more for the public and private sectors, and we must strive to get the best of both, working together, as one can’t act without the other.”
Leadership should come from within the industry and built environment professionals will learn to connect more effectively to everyday places and in a more meaningful way. This could begin with industry leaders engaging and empowering the public through education and outreach and contributing more to the debate. We should learn from other creative industries like music, fashion, art and film where there is less separation between the everyday and the elite. Built environment professionals have much to gain from increased public interest in the big issues such as the public realm, sustainability and retrofitting and helping to bring about the culture change that is needed.
